Arlene Orta, MD MPH MBA

A Medical Doctor with a Masters Degree in Public Health and Masters in Business Degree in Hospital Administration and Health Services from the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM). Dr. Orta has over 15 years experience in the areas of public health, epidemiology, health regulation and health quality processes.

She began her career as an Epidemiologist at world renown Christus Muguerza Hospital (CMH) Alta Especialidad and went on to serve as Manager of Epidemiology for the seven hospitals of the Christus Muguerza Group located in Mexico. Serving as a member of the review and assessment team for all processes related to patient safety and hospital quality (both administrative and clinical). She established guidelines, criteria and procedures for the detection, prevention and control of nosocomial infections and was involved in developing preventive programs and health promotion in public health. Dr. Orta was instrumental in developing and promoting a preventive healthcare program that included preventing needle-stick injuries. She participated in an international publication, along with other hospitals in Mexico to analyze the cases of needle-stick accidents in hospitals and to develop preventive measures.

In addition she was the Deputy Director for Regulations, establishing guidelines, criteria and procedures to standardize processes related to blood transfusion in Mexico for the National Center for Blood Transfusion (under the auspices of the Ministry of Health).

She has prepared multiple hospitals for Joint Commission International Accreditation as well as National Certification. As a Senior QRIntl consultant, she provides preparation for accreditation by JCI, as well as seminars on diverse topics in quality and safety including infection prevention and control. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
