Patrick J Connor, MD FAAEM

Board Certified in Emergency Medicine with over 20 years of experience, Dr. Connor is the Emergency Department Director of a level 3 trauma center in Carlsbad New Mexico that sees approximately 22,000 patients per year. As an Assistant Professor at and attending physician in the Emergency Department at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago since 1990, Dr. Connor teaches clinical medicine to both residents and students. He also lectures in emergency medicine, patient satisfaction, and medical decision-making. Dr. Connor was a Joint Commission Resources (JCR) consultant prior to joining QRIntl as a Senior Consultant. He is fluent in English and Spanish

Accomplishments related to improvements in patient safety and quality of care in include:

  • Redesigned and revamped an emergency department, reducing the average waiting time to < 5 minutes and the average turnaround time to < 72 minutes
  • Reduced “Left Without Being Seen” or “Completion of Treatment” to < 0.1%
  • Reduced average time from triage to doctor to < 10 minutes
  • Consistently outperformed the national standards in Door-to-Cath in the AMI: < 30 minutes for Acute Myocardial Infarction to be transferred to Cath Lab
  • Implemented a stroke task force
  • Implemented a pediatric task force and developed an Inpatient Pediatric Unit
  • Computerized the emergency department records that led to 100% chart completion on all charts prior to the patients being admitted, discharged or transferred
  • Standardized all critical equipment in the ED and Critical Care Units, especially drug boxes carrying paralytic and sedative drugs.
